Camp Focus

Designed for players aged 13 & 14 (2006-2005), this “Academy” camp enables you to discover elite rugby from the inside while having a taste of the South of France. Focusing primarily on the development of your skills, coordination, agility & speed, our coaches also introduce you to strength exercises and professional training. This camp main benefits include

Coaching Methodology

Pedagogic content and methods emphasize rugby IQ, safe practices and address all rugby essentials. To maximize & speed up your development this camp balance activities and proposes a minimum of 2 training sessions per day, one dedicated to individual skills development and one oriented towards collective drills.

Camp sessions include ball handling, passing, running angles, player support, tackling, rucking, scrum & line-outs specifics, attack & defense phases, video analysis, positioning, physical conditioning, recovery techniques, nutrition, mental preparation…

Throughout camp, coaches work to establish a personal rapport and communicate constantly with you. On the first day of camp, they run a players’ assessment to build homogeneous groups to adapt rugby IQ, training volume & intensity level to your performance level. 

At the end of camp, they talk about your challenges and achievements and propose you an individualized development plan to continue your progression back home.

Usually, a day of camp follows the following schedule

  • 09:00 am: Skills development
  • 01:00 pm: Educational session
  • 03:00 pm: Team recreation
  • 05:00 pm: Collective drills
  • 08:30 pm: Evening entertainment

Non Rugby Activities

This high performance camp is rugby centric, but it offers multiple fun indoor and outdoor activities. Typically during a day of camp, your training sessions alternate with 3 types of non rugby activities

Depending on weather and availability outdoor activities vary and include

  • Personal development exercises: team building, confidence reinforcement…
  • Sports: soccer, badminton, basketball…… 
  • Beach-time: paddle, lifeguard training, pétanque (Bocce ball)…

  • Academic tutoring (2 levels – multiple topics)
  • Cultural events

Camp participants like elite athletes need to maintain a balance during their training day and allow room for recuperation. Calmer activities include

Montpellier Herault Rugby

MHR is a TOP14 professional club owned by Mr. Mohed Altrad and coached by Mr. Vern Cotter. Consistent Playoffs contender, MHR has welcomed 102 international players who total 3,053 caps for 18 countries…

MHR was born in 1986 after the merger of the Stade Montpéllierain (1907) and the Montpellier Université Club Rugby (1921). 

In 2007, MHR inaugurated a brand new stadium and new facilities.  The current campus include a “Bodega”, several restaurants, a gift shop, offices for both the Professional team and the “Academy”.

The campus also propose 2 players’ quarters: a secured one for minors and a standard one for adults.  Athletic facilities include numerous grass pitches, synthetics fields, fitness & wrestling rooms, videos analysis rooms, classrooms, multiple cloakrooms, TV & game rooms with ping-pong & foosball tables, pétanque, soccer-tennis, badminton…

Since the merger in 1986, MHR elite teams have participated in multiple finals and won numerous titles. Most recent results include:

  • Men: European Challenge Cup (2018 Champion), TOP14 (Finalist: 2018, 2011 / 1/2 Finalist: 2016, 2014 / Playoffs: 2017, 2013, 2012), Heineken Cup (1/4 Finalist: 2013), Bouclier Européen (Champion: 2004), PRO D2 (Champion: 2003)…

The Academy

MHR has a long tradition of youth programs development. Consistently ranking among the top rugby Academy in France, MHR youth teams participate every year in multiple finals and win numerous titles.

As of today, 52% of MHR elite graduates became Professionals, Olympians or International players….

The Academy staff includes world-rugby level 3 coaches, assistant coaches, program supervisor, doctors, physiotherapists as well as both female and male international players such as Gaëlle Mignot… 

Active Elite 1 player, Gaelle is also MHR rugby Academy scrum’s specialist. Her current player record includes: 5x Elite 1 Champion, 70 caps & National Team Captain, 3x 6 Nations winner- 2 Grand Slam, 2 World Cup – 3rd place in 2017.

As the Academy is integrated to the MHR campus, Academy players and Professional athletes train every day on the same premises and share the same amenities.
